The HCPC’s revised Standards of Proficiency for Social Workers in England came into force on 9 January 2017.
The standards set out what a social worker should know and be able to do by the time they have completed their training. They are considered threshold standards for social workers and must be adhered to throughout your career.
The standards relating to confidentiality have been expanded to include, understanding the importance of information governance and to be aware of the safe and effective use of health and social care information.
This is underpinned by the Code of Practice and Conduct Standards which require registrants to keep abreast of data protection laws and best practice guidance on handling patient data.
